Mount Sinai - National Jewish Health Respiratory Institute Opens Second Location at Union Square

The Mount Sinai – National Jewish Health Respiratory Institute marked the official opening of its second location on Monday, April 16, 2018, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new practice, on the second floor of Mount Sinai Union Square, the Mount Sinai Health System’s comprehensive ambulatory care center at 10 Union Square East, has been completely renovated and updated with exam rooms and treatment suites designed specifically for diagnosing and treating respiratory diseases, as well as spacious waiting areas and comfortable consultation offices.
The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, based in Manhattan, launched the Respiratory Institute in 2015 in partnership with National Jewish Health, the nation’s leading respiratory hospital, which is based in Denver. The partnership creates a strong, integrated program for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory illnesses, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and interstitial lung disease (ILD).
“One in four Americans suffers from a serious, chronic, or life-threatening respiratory disease, making the need for excellent patient care and cutting-edge research crucial. The second location for the Mount Sinai – National Jewish Health Respiratory Institute, in lower Manhattan, will facilitate the best possible care for patients suffering from asthma, COPD, and other lung diseases,” said Dennis S. Charney, MD, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and President for Academic Affairs for the Mount Sinai Health System.

The Respiratory Institute uses an interdisciplinary approach developed by National Jewish Health in its outpatient programs. Pulmonologists collaborate with specialists in related disciplines, including cardiology, allergy, gastroenterology, rheumatology, otolaryngology (ENT), and thoracic surgery, to provide team-based, patient-centered care. The Respiratory Institute also draws on Mount Sinai’s programs in personalized medicine, genomics, and data-driven clinical protocols to enhance the quality and outcomes of the respiratory disease practice.
The Respiratory Institute is led by Dr. Powell and its Clinical Director, Louis DePalo, MD, the Sarah and Eric Lane Professor of Pulmonary Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine.
