Mount Sinai-Behavioral Health Center

The Mount Sinai-Behavioral Health Center (MSBHC) reimagines how to deliver behavioral health care. The Center is a new, patient-centered “one-stop” location offering a full array of services to meet our community’s mental health, substance use, and primary care needs.

Mental health, substance use, and physical health issues can be experienced all at the same time. The issues in one area affect other aspects of a person’s overall well-being and quality of life. Yet our health care system separates out where and how to get care for these conditions. This can be confusing and, ultimately, does not adequately address the whole person’s health needs.

The Mount Sinai-Behavioral Health Center aims to break down these silos by integrating all of these services in one location. There are also critical new services to address gaps in the continuum of behavioral health care. For instance, the addition of Intensive Crisis Residence beds, as well as the new outpatient Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient Program create alternatives to hospitalization, or safer step-down from hospitalizations.  We believe that this groundbreaking new model of care will lead to better treatment and better health outcomes.

MSBHC is also part of the larger Mount Sinai Health System Behavioral Health clinical service line.  Patients will be able to access behavioral health services across the entire Mount Sinai Health System, including the Addiction Institute at Mount Sinai clinical programs at other locations, and unique programs such as our adolescent CARES program and our Center for Intensive Treatment of Personality Disorders (CITPD).

“In creating this new behavioral health center, we saw a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform how we deliver behavioral health care. By creating a seamless integrated continuum of care all in one location, we believe the Center will raise the bar for behavioral health and the well-being of New Yorkers.”

A Landmark Initiative by Mount Sinai

As one of the largest private investments in behavioral health in the history of New York State, the Mount Sinai-Behavioral Health Center is a testament to the value that Mount Sinai places on behavioral health care. With an investment of $140 million and of significant resources and time, we have re-envisioned the model of mental health care in order to address long-standing challenges in the field and provide exceptional, compassionate care to the community.

Patient Care Supported by the Latest Research

Behavioral health care relies on the latest research and science to evolve and improve. Access to both the Mount Sinai-Behavioral Health Center and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai provides patients with the opportunity to participate in some of the most promising clinical trials in the country. Mount Sinai’s Department of Psychiatry is supported by nearly $50 million in funding, with 40 labs, 15 major research centers, and 130 research faculty.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At the Center, diversity, equity, and inclusivity are core values. Through Mount Sinai’s Psychiatry DEI Steering Committee, we have implemented processes and guidelines to increase our ability to provide culturally responsive care. We are dedicated to:

  • Demonstrating compassion and respect for our patients, families, and each other.
  • Creating and supporting an environment that embraces diversity and promotes teamwork.
  • Achieving excellence and efficiency through innovation and collaboration.
