Sometimes the pain in your back, head, or neck just won’t go away no matter what you try.  Whether it comes from normal aging (such as arthritis) or an accident or surgery, we at the Interventional Pain Medicine Service at Mount Sinai Union Square can help. We do our best to reduce your pain and improve your quality of life. We simplify and improve access to diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of conditions affecting the muscles, bones, and nerves. Our team of doctors, therapists, and specialists works together to design the treatment plan that’s right for you.

We use interventional pain medicine uses  minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat chronic pain. Minimally invasive procedures mean shorter hospital stays, quicker recuperation, and less pain and scarring. We draw on  variety of techniques to relieve pain. This can include nerve blocks, injections, and spinal cord stimulation. We do this by targeting the specific source of your pain. Sophisticated imaging helps us deliver treatment to the exact right spot.

Treatments We Offer

We use a wide variety of approaches to help with your pain. These include:

  • Cryoablation: Freezing the nerve that transmits pain to the brain
  • Dorsal root ganglion stimulation: A neurological approach to help with pain that is difficult to treat
  • Minimally invasive lumbar decompression: A state-of-the art surgical procedure to treat back pain
  • Peripheral nerve stimulation: Mild electrical currents sent to outside the spine to ease pain
  • Radiofrequency ablation: Heat delivered by X-ray to temporarily disable the specific nerves responsible for pain
  • Regenerative medicine: Treatment that replaces or "regenerates" human cells, tissues, or organs in order to restore or establish normal function
  • Spinal cord stimulation: Electrical stimulation for back, arm, and leg pain
